Team Raphael embrace International Infection Prevention Week 2018
22 October 2018 –
Team Raphael embraced International Infection Prevention Week 2018 this month.
Led by Raj Boodhoo RN, Service Manager/Infection Control Lead, the team across Raphael’s Hildenborough site took part in a series of focus groups to discuss current and future infection control measures in a bid to support the national “stamp out the spread of infection” campaign.
Designed to facilitate group discussions and exercises, including the use of UV lamps to determine the effectiveness of hand washing, the eye-opening activities helped to cement infection control (IPC) as one of the key drivers for nursing care across the hospital. Raj said: “We have improved our infection control programme a great deal over the past 12 months or so and are placing a great deal of emphasis on upskilling our team to provide them with the knowledge and confidence to approach infection control matters promptly, professionally and with due care”. Speaking of the team’s enthusiasm for IPC, Raj said: “We are fortunate to have a great team to are keen to understand and learn the wider implications of infections and use these focus group activities to ensure we consistently deliver person-centred care”.
International Infection Prevention Week takes place every year during the third week of October to raise awareness of the critical role infection prevention plays in improving patient safety.
