Gerhard was born in Germany and spent his school and university years there.
After graduating, he spent 2 years working in financial services as a Financial Analyst for an international oil company. He married in Canada to his wife (Elizabeth) and they both decided to return to England.
Gerhard worked for a number of years in financial services as a Corporate Planner, Market Research Manager and Marketing Manager, after which he established an independent financial services firm. Due to an experience within his family, the impulse developed to establish a healthcare operation specifically aligned to treat people holistically, with the human being at the centre of the treatment process. Ultimately, the Raphael Hospital Group was born and has been growing and raising care standards for over 30 years.
Gerhard has also dedicated his legacy to developing healthcare clinics in Germany, with some 200 beds and a forward plan to develop further health establishments across Germany and Europe with the ultimate goal of creating a European healthcare company that can further develop his vision.
Gerhard is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute and holds an honours degree in Business Administration and completed his PhD whilst simultaneously managing the Raphael Hospital’s development in the UK.
Elizabeth co-founded the Raphael Hospital Group over 35 years ago and has been instrumental in supporting the growth of both the hospital and its services. Initially being introduced to anthroposophy at the age of 15, Liz went on to study full-time for over 3 years before moving on to work in London and Canada. In her spare time, Liz undertook voluntary work with the Edith Cavell Society and attended lectures at Steiner House.
Liz continues to be actively involved and leads on the hospital’s hotel services. Her particular expertise is in creating therapeutic environments through the use of colour and natural material. Within the remit of hotel services, she oversees the estates team in maximising the therapeutic and holistic spaces, both within the hospital and across the site.
